My take on Murtha

I imagine many of you have followed what has gone on with Rep. Murtha's proposal for withdrawl of troups from Iraq. Today I stumbled across two websites that address this issue for people from Fairfield County.
First, check out this.
When you have read that, please check out this.

All due respect, but in this case your Congressman Shays is right.
Personally, I do NOT think there was sufficient justification to go to war in Iraq, but once we're in, right or wrong, we're committed and have a responsibility to the world, to Iraq, and to ourselves to bring the war to the most just possible conclusion given the situation. Pulling U.S. troops out before Iraqis are ready to defend their own security is in no one's interest but the terrorists', and Congressman Murtha's proposed 6-month schedule is not enough time.
I don't know. It is hard for me to understand the "out of Iraq" movement back in the States. Here I sit, on the other side of the world, and it's obvious to me that it is a matter of life and death for the Iraqi people and their legitimate political aspirations that U.S. forces be in Iraq and stay there for perhaps several more years. In a way, I think we owe our continuing sacrifice to the Iraqis in recompense for invading their country. We also owe it to our own dedication to peace, prosperity, and liberty.
I also have to say that in spite of my doubts over the justification for going to war, I think the Bush administration and especially the U.S. troops have prosecuted the war a lot better than I expected. It has been a long, painful process, but we are slowly achieving the goal of establishing freedom in Iraq. Just a while longer, and our sacrifice will gain us a new ally in a troubled region instead of the bought-off despots we have too often settled for, as well as honor on our troops, and perhaps even on our nation, too.

I’m glad you appreciated the subtle political ad, even if you disagree with the message. However, I would encourage you to look a little more closely at the issue of how Iraq is dealt with. I’m not sure if you saw the news yesterday that Iraqi political leaders are now calling for a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawl. (here, and here.)
I would also suggest that you read Rep. Murtha’s proposal a little more closely. He argues that by having U.S. forces on the ground in Iraq, we are exacerbating the situation. By moving them out of Iraq, including keeping special forces in Kuwait to deal with special situations we can restore stability more quickly than we can by ‘staying the course’.
Now, you may question whether six months, nine months, or two years is the best timetable. As a matter of fact we would be better off if more people would question what the best time table would be. Unfortunately, the Republican leadership, including Rep. Shays, have maneuvered to avoid serious dialog about the best approach.
Personally, as an IT executive, if someone working for me responded that they will work on the project until it is done, without providing objectives, a timeline, and milestones along the way, I would start looking for their replacement immediately.
